Theology & Sermons
I completed the Bachelor of
Theology degree at the Theological Education by Extension College (TEEC) at the end of 2009 and graduated on 17
April 2010. I have grown a lot through my studies, in my understanding of
and relationship with God and in the integration of my faith and life. I
started studying towards an honours degree in theology at the start of
2011.
At my church, St Martin in
the Fields, Irene, I am a licensed lay preacher and lay minister. I am
part of the Fellowship of Vocation of the Pretoria Diocese, hoping for
ordination into ministry at some time in the future.
I am the course advisor at
TEEC for the course, "Christians Responses to HIV and AIDS".
I am a licensed lay preacher
at my church - St Martin in the Fields Anglican Church.
It is a blessing and
sometimes a burden to preach, but always a great joy to witness to the love of
God displayed in Jesus Christ. Preaching, for me at any rate, is one of
those activities that forces me to throw myself as God's feet and depend fully
on him to enable me and to inspire words that speak into people's lives.
So it has become an important part of my own faith journey. I hope that
the sermons below may be a blessing to you as they were to me as I prepared and
delivered them.
You will notice a massive
decline in sermons since 2007. I continue to preach about monthly (fortnightly
since the start of 2011) but for various reasons seldom write up my sermons.
One of the reasons for this is that my sermons have increasingly become
'performative acts' rather than propositional. In other words, my sermons are
an experience that take place in the flesh in the relationship between the
congregation and me. These experiences often do not translate well onto paper.
It not that they are lacking in content or propositional truth - to the
contrary - but these truths are presented not merely as information but as an
evocative experience.
I
have recently begun recording sermons. These files are larger (I indicate the
MB next to the icon).
